Captain Pat Cavanaugh has been involved in the Sportfishing industry since 1984. Starting at the age of 12, Pat spent more then 9 year working on boats in Ventura county. First as pinhead on the Monte Carlo, then deckhand. He earned his captain's license at the age of 19. Pat also spent time fishing out of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, working as a captain on a six-pack charter boat. From 1994 to 2003, Pat worked on the Long-Range sportfisher Excel, and for six and and-a-half seasons, served as captain under owner Bill Poole. In that time, Pat built a strong reputation for constantly making great catches, and developed a loyal following of customers by running an outstanding operation. Since 2003 the Pacific Dawn has been established as one of the top charter boats servicing both the Channel Islands and the San Diego Coast and Offshore.
Since 2003 we have made many improvements such as:
*Air conditioned bunk room, completely remodeled in January 2003, specifically designed for groups of 15 to 20 passengers, each with individual bunk.
*Galley completely refinished, with new flooring, windows, upholstery and stainless steel.
*Re-powered in 2000, she has two low emissions 350 hp Cummins diesel engines.
*Custom bait tanks, designed to hold 100+ scoops.
*Our experienced crew takes great pride in their fish handling and processing skills. From gaffing and handling to filleting and packaging, we strive to make sure everyone goes home with the best possible product.
*All New Electronics including, a Westmar HD800 side scan sonar and a Satellite phone.
*New for 2007, we added a davit (crane) to support our skiffs during our annual 4-5 day Baja Coastal bass trips.
